Slovenian Government takes note of the upcoming signature of memorandums of understanding on the implementation of the EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanisms 2014–2021

Ljubljana, 5 April 2018 – Slovenian Government takes note of the upcoming signature of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Implementation of the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014–2021 and the Memorandum of Understanding on the Implementation of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021.

Donor states and the European Commission completed negotiations on the future funding period of the EEA and Norway Grants in May 2016. This was followed by the negotiations with each beneficiary state, including Slovenia which is to launch the third consecutive funding period of the Grants. A total of EUR 37.7 million is being made available to Slovenia in the period 2014–2021, of which EUR 19.9 million comes from the EEA Grants and EUR 17.8 million from the Norway Grants. Memorandum of Understanding on the Implementation of the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014–2021 between Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Slovenia, and Memorandum of Understanding on the Implementation of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014–2021 between the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Slovenia are framework agreements setting out how the funding allocated to Slovenia through the EEA and Norway Grants will be implemented in the period 2014–2021. Alenka Smerkolj, caretaker minister responsible for development, strategic projects and cohesion is to sign the two documents on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia later this month.
