Annual communication workshop held on 24 and 25 October in sunny Lisbon brought together heads and communication officers of National Focal Points and embassies to share good communication practices in both previous and current funding period of EEA and Norway Grants.
By and large, the workshop focused on active integration and use of plain and understandable language. Key stakeholders often believe that the use of complex sentences and specialist terminology (e.g. in promotional material, press releases, reports, any communication material) helps increase visibility and performance of Grants. However, donors stressed that the use of such language, on the contrary, often leads to frustration of readers struggling to understand it, or even to misinterpretation. The donors expect the language and the messages to be clear, understandable, precise and concise at all levels of implementation. They highlighted that ‘’the target audience needs to understand your content and messages right away.’’
