In October 2012 the Government of the Republic of Slovenia familiarised itself with the preparation of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism Programme and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism Programme

In the period 2009–2014 an overall amount of 1.8 million Euros is available for the fifteen beneficiary states in the framework of both financial mechanisms. With the EEA Financial Mechanism the Republic of Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Kingdom of Norway allocated 988.5 million Euros for the projects, which will be implemented in twelve new EU Member States and Greece, Portugal and Spain. In the framework of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism the Kingdom of Norway also allocated 800 million Euros for the projects in twelve new EU Member States.
On the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the European Economic Area (hereinafter EEA) Financial Mechanism 2009–2014, which was signed in May 2011 by the Republic of Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Slovenia, and the Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009–2014, which was signed in May 2011 by the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Slovenia, an overall gross amount of 26.9 million Euros is available for the Republic of Slovenia in the programming period 2009–2014.

The Republic of Slovenia will use these funds for the following areas:
•    environment and climate change
•    civil society
•    human and social development
•    cultural heritage
•    research and scholarship
•    decent work and tripartite dialogue

In accordance with the signed Memorandums of Understanding various programme operators in the Republic of Slovenia will implement five programmes and 1 fund at the national level (you can find more information on the web page, in the section About the programmes).
